November already?!!

Well, October flew right past, didn't it?  We had so much going on, it was gone practically before I realized it was here.  The bed and breakfast stayed very busy, with customers every day, except about 3.  Many of those bookings were multiple rooms, so I was very busy trying to keep up with that and my house.  Crops were harvested without any issues, which is always a blessing.  I also spent a great deal of time planning and preparing for a baby shower for Megan.  :)  Cindy and her girls helped a great deal.  Ashley helped too.  It was a group effort, and worked out very nicely.  Megan and Josh received a lot of nice things for their baby.  They were so happy, it made it all worth it!

We also went to Indianapolis for FFA National Convention.  Wyatt received the American Degree, and we wanted to be there to watch him receive it.  We drove about 6 hours to get there (we forgot about the time change, so that was interesting).  The first thing we did was get checked into our hotel.  We had our first experience w/valet parking-lol!  This is when Wyatt informed us that he needed a ride back to the hotel he was staying at so he could get his things.  The hotel is out by the airport, so Jeff got to drive in rush hour to take him to get his things.  Kids!  Next, we went to a nice reception that they held for the degree recipients and their families.  We didn't have any of the food, because there were no places to sit and eat it, unless we held it on our laps.  They had a very good speaker.  He moved us both to tears several times, but also had us laughing-a lot!  Next was trying to find some food.  We wandered around downtown trying to find somewhere, when Jeff had the bright idea to go to Steak and Shake.  I don't have anything against it, it's just that I was walking around in high heels, and haven't done that in a very, very long time.  We were all dressed up to go to Steak and Shake!!  Lucky for him, the line was out the door.  He then saw a sign and insisted that we try the Ruth Chris's Steak House.  It has to be good, because they advertise on the Country Gold Show.  (Logic, according to Jeff)  It was very nice, but it was a little out of our league.  In my opinion, somewhere in the middle would have been fine.  One extreme, or the other-that's Jeff.  After we were done, we walked back to the hotel.  We saw so many beggars on the streets.  It broke my heart.  I just wish we lived in a world where people didn't have to do that.  I did give some money to one of them.  Jeff said well he's probably going to go get some booze now.  I said well if that's what he did, then that's his business.  I told Jeff I would not feel bad for trying to be compassionate.  He agreed, but I think I kind of shocked him.  I usually don't do things like that.  It reminded me of a time in Columbia, MO that I saw someone begging, and I went into a quick store and took them a hot dog, some chips, a cookie, and some soda.  Not the most nutritious by far, but I thought if they were truly hungry, they would appreciate the effort.  Funny thing is, I couldn't stop crying about it.  It had me rattled for several days afterward.  I'm not judging them or preaching here, I am just saying if you are able, try not to judge the people that are reduced to this, and help them if you can.  I didn't change the world, but I did change the way I look at things like this.  It always makes me think of the song "Don't Laugh At Me".  I still can't hear that song without crying.  Anyway, we finally all settled down and got some sleep.  The next morning, we went to breakfast, and then to the Lucas Oil Stadium (the Indiana Colts football field), and found our seats to watch him receive his award.  The whole thing was very humbling.  So many kids with so much in common from all over our country.  All 50 states were represented, with Missouri having the most awards, followed by California.  It was very interesting.  On our way back, Jeff stopped at an orchard for me, so I could can apple butter.  We ended up w/a lot of apples though!  I made home made apple filling, to use when I make pork chops and stuffing.  It's very good.  I also use this to fill crepes.  In addition, I mixed ingredients for apple pies, and froze them.  I have enough to make 8 apple pies.  We used to have apple trees here, but a storm wiped them out, and we haven't replaced them yet.  I sure miss them!

We have been having some very bizzare things happening around here.  This story starts back at Labor Day.  We came back from Iowa to find out that our phone didn't work.  No dial tone-nothing.  That means no internet, but it also means no cell phone.  Because of our location, we are dependent on a thing called a "Microcell".  It's a little cell phone tower that boosts our signal so we can get phone calls here.  It is dependent on the dsl, so when the internet is gone, no cell phones!  I had to wait until Tuesday morning to have a repairman come, and when he did, he was very stumped.  He said well I've never seen this before...turns out the phone line that was originally put in, probably in the '50's, finally went bad.  The worst part is that it went across Jerry's bean field, all the way over to Hwy EE.  He said "This is going to take a while".  GRRR!!!  Jeff suggested a temporary line, which was good because it still hasn't been fixed.  The bad part is that we literelly have a wire hanging from our window, across my grape arbor, through the yard outside the gate, and across the beanfield.  It worked for just a bit, but a few days before  we were to leave, I woke up to no phone again, and no internet.  I drove to the bed and breakfast to report it, and they came to fix it.  At first he thought it was a lightning hit, then later said a "critter" chewed the line.  Jerry had asked them to wait until he got his beans out before they dug up the field, which is very understandable, but by this point, the beans had been out for over 2 weeks.  The repairman fixed it again, and everyone was happy.  That is until right before we left.  I went to check my email and the internet wouldn't work.  I picked up the phone to call them and report it, but it started working, so I hung up.  It stopped working again.  This happened several times before I figured out that the internet would only work when the phone was off the hook.  Can you imagine the poor guy at tech. support when I reported this?!  He was very worked up about it and said we need to hire an exorcist.  I said WHAT?!! So the next morning, the repairman came once again, and didn't believe me either.  It turns out there was a kink in the wire, which caused this, and it's fixed.  Fast forward to yesterday...they started burying the wire, only to cut the wire to our satellite dish!  Am I asking so much to just have things work here?

Well I have written a book here, so I will stop for now.  We will see how November goes!  I hope it will be a bit less exciting!  I have some things planned that will be firsts for me, and will keep you posted.

Hugs!

Happy Fall!

I can't believe it's been so long since I last posted.  I guess time flies when you are having fun!  This is my favorite time of year for many reasons.  I love the crisp air, the pretty colors as everything is changing, APPLES, pumpkins, no more mowing grass, etc., it is also our anniversary soon.  I am looking forward to making some crockpot apple butter, and I also have a new recipe for apple cake that I am anxious to try.  More on that later!

Jeff and Jerry are busy in the fields after much delay because of working on the new combine.  They seem to have it figured out now, and the corn is being harvested.  The grain bin fans are running again.  :)

I have been working with my sister in law Cindy on planning a baby shower for Megan.  I think it will be lots of fun and I hope she will be happy with what we have planned.  In anticipation of waiting for our first grandbaby, I have learned how to crochet.  I am about half way through making my first afghan.  I am excited about it because my mom used to do a lot of this.  The type of stitch I am doing is different than she did.  I am wishing I had slowed down a bit and learned from her while she was alive, but the point is I am learning it now.  I have worked and worked on this, and have taken it apart about 5 times, but I think I have it figured out now, and it actually looks like a blanket.  Megan's word for blanket when she was little was "blampy" and I have smiled a lot remembering her saying that as I have been working on this.  I will post a picture when I am done.  Oh and I am using yarn that my mom had bought for some project, and I saved it after she passed away.  I think it's cool that she can still be a part of it in some way.

This coming week, I am going to go to my first cooking school show.  Taste of Home magazine is having one in Columbia, and I am super excited because I have always wanted to go to one, but they don't come here very often, and I have always had other things going on.

Things have also been busy with the bed and breakfast.  We have been meeting lots of new people, and enjoying return visits with others.  It's pretty neat that we have so many customers that started out as strangers, and are now very dear friends. :)

At the end of August, we enjoyed a mini family reunion.  It was very fun and also good to see most of Jeff's family.  The kids had a blast with some games we brought (ladder golf, washers, horseshoes, etc.) and also had so much fun catching frogs.  Jeff's aunt Judy and uncle Bill were here with their granddaughter for the first time.  It was so fun getting to know her, and watching her take so much delight in spending time in the country.  I bought her a butterfly net and a little cage for her critters.  It kind of started an obsession with her!  I also camped in the yard with her, and had a bon fire so we could roast hot dogs and marshmallows.  I think she enjoyed it.  It seemed like Judy and Bill enjoyed it too!  They didn't camp with us, but I think they enjoyed the rest of it.  I hope she can come back again sometime, and that we can stay in touch.  We are looking forward to having Judy and Bill's daughter come sometime with her two boys.  We will have so much fun!

Fall is almost here!

We have had a very busy summer, and I have to admit...I am TOTALLY ready for fall!  I love this time of year, with the cooler weather, changing colors, fun activities, and apples will be ready soon!  I have big plans for the apples I'm going to buy.  We used to have our own, but a few years ago, a big storm took care of the trees-I almost cried!  I plan to make apple butter, apple cake-I have a new recipe I am excited to try.  I also love to make home made apple pie filling.  I have used this for apple pies, of course, but it is also very good to use when cooking pork.  I like it on pork chops and stuffing especially.  I plan to try it on either pork loin, or a pork roast.  I think it will be interesting!

Another thing about fall is it's time to get the crops out.  I will miss Jeff while he is busy with the harvest, but we are always thankful for when there is a crop to harvest, especially in years like this one.  The heavy rains, high river, etc. make things interesting sometimes!  Jeff and Jerry will be getting crops out w/a new combine.  It's a red one.  I am probably supposed to know what kind it is, but I'm not sure-I think International Harvester is what it is, but I am not sure.

We are busy with the bed and breakfast.  We have a lot of new customers coming, as well as getting to see the ones that have been here before.  I love it when we have return customers.  We must be doing something good for them to want to come back.  :)

We have a new puppy here on the farm too.  His name is Buckley (aka Buck), and he is 1/2 Australian Shephard, and 1/2 Border Collie.  Charlie is his Daddy!  After about a week of Charlie ignoring him, they are becoming fast friends.  It seems the jury is still out on Ozzie and how he feels about him!  He is a little bundle of energy and so fun to have around, even if it means middle of the night potty breaks and occasional accidents.  He stays outside during the day, but has been coming in at night.  Jeff likes to act indifferent about him, but he has on many occasions gone out and brought him in.  I pretend I don't notice.  LOL!

I am hoping to get the time and energy to move some flowers around and re-vamp some flower beds.  Wish me luck on this one.  This hasn't been my year for keeping up with things!

I am hoping to get a couple more camping trips worked in before it gets too cold again.  Even if it means I am camping out in the back yard-I LOVE camping!!

Summertime

It's been a very hot summer, and I am starting to struggle with the 100 degree plus weather.  I don't mind it when it's in the 90's even, but when it starts getting around 95 or higher, most people that are familiar with Missouri know what that means!  HUMIDITY!!  The heat is one thing, but when you see 99% humidity almost daily on the weather station, it's overwhelming.  I have asthma, which means when the humidity is like this, it also means that I struggle with breathing.  I do not like my inhaler, for several reasons, but mostly because it makes me so jumpy.  I know this won't last forever, but I think we are going on just about a month of this, and I am ready for some weather changes!  I know we can't control the weather, but I just thought I would vent on it for a minute anyway.

We have had lots of goodies from the garden.  I have not canned anything yet this summer though.  We have picked several batches of green beans, lots of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, garlic,  cabbage, onions, potatoes, peppers (all kinds), and brussel sprouts.  I think that is all, but I'm not sure.  There are some eggplant almost ready, and the tomatoes are becoming more dependable, so I should be able to can them soon.  I think a batch of salsa is in the future.  We also bought some peaches so I have been making things with them.  So far, there have been several batches of peach cobbler.  I sent two pans to work with Jeff for his buddies to share, we sent some to a friend, and of course, we had some too.  I also made my sister's recipe for grilled and brandied peach butter.  It sounded pretty interesting, so I gave it a shot.  I don't know this for sure, but I am guessing that her version was much better than mine.  You start out grilling the peaches on the bbq grill.  I forgot to brush them w/butter, so they stuck all over the grill.  I think that is what the brushing butter was for...anyway, I managed to save them from the grill, and followed the rest of the instructions more carefully.  The end result was very good.  It is very similar to apple butter, but obviously different too.  I am glad I tried it.  My sister is a chef, but I definitely am not.  I just like to cook, and try new things.  I also processed and froze 60 quarts of corn.  I took everything to the bed and breakfast to accomplish this, because my kitchen is not air conditioned, and the idea of having a large boiling pot of water on the stove for several hours was not very appealing to me.  I am glad I am done w/that!

We had some excitement here the other day with an animal that has not yet been identified.  I have seen this animal before, out in front by our windmill, about 2 weeks ago.  Jeff is pretty good at telling me I haven't seen things that I am positive that I did, so I was on a mission to find proof.  I was putting freshly dried sheets on our bed, and happened to look out the window to see this critter.  I ran to get the camera, at last being able to prove it to him.  After putting the picture on the computer and then printing it, I am not sure, but I think it could be a mountain lion.  I sent the picture to a friend with connections to the conservation department, and they sent it to a biologist.  We will see.  Jeff's reaction was not what I expected, but I'm not totally surprised by it either.  He asked me why I didn't get closer so I could get a better picture.  I said "you do realize this could be a mountain lion, right?"  he said I'm pretty sure it is, but you should have gotten closer.  The lesson learned is that I cannot prove anything to him, so I should stop trying.  Either that, or find a way to be braver, and perhaps try to pet the kitty next time?!

Last night was another first for me.  We went to see a live concert.  I know I am pretty old for never going, but it's true.  Jeff had the idea last winter, when he heard a radio commercial.  He suggested we invite our friends that we don't get to see very often.  It was an awesome night.  We started out by meeting Mike at a friend's house in Wright City, then we went on to Wentzville to a restaurant called Stephanina's.  It is a very good restaurant, and we HIGHLY recommend it.  Several years ago, Jeff and I ate at the one in Troy.  We had a really good house salad, cheesy breadsticks, and a large pizza.  Everything was so good, and it was really nice to be able to catch up with our friends.  From there we went to the concert.  We aren't sure if it started early, or if the first act was just short, but we only got to hear about 4 songs from Night Ranger.  Next was Foreigner.  I wasn't too excited about them, although I know all of their songs.  It's not that I don't like them, it's that they aren't a band I can say that I am just crazy about.  I was pleasantly surprised!!  They put on a really good show.  Next was Journey.  I wasn't sure how they would be either without Steve Perry, but I LOVE Journey, so I was excited.  They did really good.  I LOVED it.  The lead singer is definitely not Steve Perry, but he did an awesome job.  He ran all around the stage, jumped, got the crowd excited, and sang really well.  I am so happy that we went.  I love that Jeff is trying to step out of his zone and that he thinks of these things.  It is not something that I thought he would do, but I am so glad that he did.  Most people that know him, know that he has a difficult time having fun.  He is the sweetest guy I know, but he forgets that we need to spend time together, and he forgets that life is not all about work.  It is one of the things that we disagree on the most, and I am so happy that he is trying.  He deserves to take a break and let loose sometimes too.

2nd Trip this summer...

Bee and I just returned from our last adventure.  We went to Anheuser-Busch's Clydesdale farm, called Warm Springs Ranch near Booneville.  Bee has always had a huge interest in these horses, and I also like them.  We learned a lot.  The tour lasts about 1 1/2 hours.  They give you more information than you could imagine throughout the tour, but you also are allowed to get fairly close at times to these beautiful animals.  It was very interesting, and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is interested.  The cost is very reasonable too-only $10/person.  From there, we went to explore and find our bed and breakfast that we were going to stay at.  After getting lost a few times and wandering around, we found it!  I had stayed there several years ago w/Jeff, but he was driving and it was dark, so I didn't remember the details.  At this point, we went back and enjoyed a lunch at Olive Garden, did some shopping, and headed back to the bed and breakfast.  Along the way we found another wonderful day lily farm.  This one was much cheaper, and they had Stargazer lilies, which is something we both have been watching for.  They had bulbs of day lilies on sale for 1/2 price!!  We arrived at Rivercene (yes, that's how they spell it), and the innkeepers let us check in a little early.  We were greeted by two very nervous innkeepers, who had just bought the place.  To say they are overwhelmed is probably a big understatement.  They have a lot of big ideas and plans to put 1 million dollars into the place.  We will watch and see if they actually follow through with it.  This was Bee's first time staying in a bed and breakfast, and I just knew she would love the history.  The home was built by a river boat tycoon in the 1800's.  There is so much history there, I couldn't even begin to cover it here.  One of the innkeepers reminded me so much of Martin Short that I had a hard time taking him seriously.  I wish these two the best of luck in this huge venture, and learning the ins and outs of inn keeping.  I think they are finding out that it is not quite as easy as they thought it would be.  They have a lot to learn about housekeeping, but even having said that, I am glad we stayed there.  Breakfast was very good, and it is actually the first time that I have stayed at a bed and breakfast that served a breakfast close to my standard, so that by itself was a treat for me!  They brought us each a nice cup of hot chocolate while we visited, then showed us to the dining room to be seated for breakfast.  It consisted of fruit (strawberries, grapes, and blueberries w/a little powdered sugar dusted on all) and juice first, as well as a freshly baked home made cinnamon roll.  Next the main entree was brought in, which was an egg dish similar to one I make at my bed and breakfast.  The main difference was that he sauteed red potatoes with the peppers and onions, and he served it from individual souffle dishes.  There was a lot of food there, but everything was very nice.  I have been frustrated when Jeff and I stay at b and b's, including the time we stayed at this one w/the previous owners, because breakfast has not been what I think it should be, so this impressed me very much.  With me doing this for a living, I probably noticed things that I wouldn't otherwise notice, and raised an eyebrow more than once.  It's ok though because they are learning.  I wouldn't hold it against them at this point, however, if I return a year from now and see some of the things that disturbed me, I would have a different opinion.  The trip was finished off at a local peach tree farm, and buying some fresh peaches.  I will be making Jeff a fresh peach cobbler this evening for putting up with me.

It's Summertime!

It's been a bit since I have blogged-so I will try to catch up!  I had been so super busy at the bed and breakfast, that I was dreaming of a little get away.  Finally, after 2 months straight of multiple room customers, I got the chance!  I am not complaining of being too busy at the b and b, just saying that I was super swamped and couldn't get away.  Being busy for that long is definitely a good thing!  The July heat and the flooding issues have really deterred customers from following through on their bookings, so that gave me the little break I needed to get away (actually, a couple of times).  The first trip was a floating and camping trip with my friend Bee.  We have done this I think a total of 4 times in the last two years.  We have gone to Steeleville and floated on the Meramac, to Bennett Springs and floated on the Niangua, and one camping trip to the Lake of the Ozarks.  No floating on that trip, but camping anyway!  This time we chose Steeleville again, but at a different campground, and on a different river.  We stayed and Huzzah Valley Campground, and did a 6 mile float on the Huzzah River.  We weren't too sure about this trip, because our other one to Steeleville wasn't super impressive.  We did not like the Meramac River, because it was very muddy, we saw several snakes, and she is nervous about reports of drownings, etc.  I realize the other rivers have snakes too, but in my opinion, if you don't see them, then they aren't there!  Usually this trick works to calm my mind on the subject.  Anyway, we found the campground, and we were pleasantly surprised.  It was very well kept, and our campsite was directly along the river.  It was very pretty.  We set up our campsite, and then of course had to go get the last of our supplies, esp. wine coolers.  We had so much fun walking in the river, rock hunting, we played several games of ladder golf, read some magazines, enjoyed our hot dog roast and drinkies, and relaxed around the campfire...UNTIL it got dark, and then the critters come out.  We had an unfortunate incident with a killer racoon on one of our previous trips, so we get a little jumpy after dark.  Everything was fine until we heard a couple of very big splashes in the river.  We weren't messing around with that, so after shining our flashlights for a while, and seeing 2 sets of eyes, we freaked out and went to our tents.  In our haste, I forgot to put away the box of tabasco flavored Cheez Its.  We use these with cream cheese and pepper jelly.  You laugh, but it is actually very good-you should try it.  I realized this about 3:30 am when I finally talked myself into braving getting out of my tent and sneaking away to the bathroom.  Then I hurried back to the tent and couldn't sleep because of God knows what is out there!  In the morning, I went right away to put the crackers away, but they were gone-the whole box and all!  I guess whichever critter ran off with them got a surprise when they tore into them!  I would have liked to have seen that!!!  We gathered ourselves, and after a wonderful breakfast of fruit and doughnuts, we were off for our rafting adventure.  The water was very clear and everything was so pretty.  We started out in the water by getting rammed into by two other rafts in which the operators didn't know how to control them yet, almost getting smacked in the head by an oar, etc.  We got away from them and spent most of the day in our own little world. We would row for a while, talk, giggle, etc.  Then we would go to the closest beach and swim a bit, have a snack, then row some more.  We found this section that wasn't too deep, but had a pretty good current going, so we floated on our backs to the end of the beach, got out and did it all over again.  We did this for at least an hour, and felt like we had our own 6 Flags type of ride!  All was good for the rest of the float until we got to the end.  We managed to get ourselves into a pretty strong current, and Bee lost her shoe.  I started to go after it for her, but not being able to see around the corner, and the thought of missing our ride deterred me.  She just had to deal with being the one shoe wonder for the rest of the afternoon!  We are going back soon, but the next time we will be there for 2 nights!  Maybe we should bring an animal trap with us?

Another Crazy Week!

I was sitting here trying to remember everything that happened this past week.  Sometimes that's just really hard to do.  I have not been quite as busy as before with customers, but still busy.  I did manage a few days off from the bed and breakfast and caught up on some things at home.  I had a lymph node massage on Wednesday, and I honestly cannot believe how much better I feel!  I had a 30 minute one done several weeks ago, and didn't really notice anything.  This time I did though-my nose was running like crazy, I could breathe normally, which for me is a big thing!  I have a lot of allergies and always have, and I also have asthma.  Since we have had all of this rain, my allergies are out of control.  I was so excited to feel better, I made an appointment to have one done every other month.  Jeff and I have been bickering about if that is enough.  He wants me to go every month, but I just don't have the time, and it's a little expensive, especially if you do it all the time.  So for now, every other month.

There has been a little less drama with the kids this week, although there is always something.  We celebrated Wyatt's 19th birthday on Wednesday.  Where does the time go?  Anyway, he has been having a lot of fun with his birthday present.  We gave him money to get his bow and arrow set worked on so he can fish with it.  He has been gone every day doing that.  I just hope he stays safe and out of trouble.

Last Friday, my friend and I went on another little adventure.  We have so much fun on our little trips!  First, we went to eat (that's always important), then we went to Morrison to the big flat sale, and loaded up on flowers.  Next, we went to Owensville to a daylily farm.  We wandered around looking, and then you go tell the owners what you want, and they dig it for you, marked and all.  It was hard to pick from all of them.  If I can figure out how to do it, I will post a link for you...  http://www.homesteadfarms.com/
We had a lot of fun, and will be going back!
The other big excitement is that we are now the proud owners of a 963 Trackloader.  What is that, you ask?  I'm not sure, other than it is a GIANT piece of equipment with a super big loader thingy.  Jeff could fill you in on what it really is.  He has a job lined up for it already, so that's good.  Wyatt and Jeff are in Columbia working on it today, and spending quality time together.  He will be bringing it home soon.

We have a full house tonight at the bed and breakfast and 3 rooms full for the next two nights.  I will be busy for a while!  After that, it will slow down considerably.  I plan to visit family in Iowa, go camping, and work on flower beds.  I have one flower bed that has been over-run with poison ivy.  It will be going away, and we will plant grass there.  I helped my sister in law dig a few things out of there the other day, and now I am broken out-AGAIN (I think that's like 6 times this summer so far)!!  I hate it!  Something needs to change when it is becoming that kind of a problem.  So I have given away most of my hostas, and have a few more things to move.  I want Jeff to either poison what is left or light it on fire.  Then the plan is to put cardboard over it until fall to be sure it's good and dead, then plant grass.

I am also working on a cookbook, after years of talking about it.  My kids, esp. the girls get aggravated at me because I have a lot of that stuff in my head.  I just do it, and don't worry about it much.  I'm not much of a measurer, so I dump stuff.  It almost never comes out the same, but I am trying to be better about it.  I have had many customers ask for recipes as well.  I have gotten just about all of the recipes entered into the software, I just have to wait for a few others to give me recipes.  After that, it's proofing them, and picking out the specifications for the cookbook.  I am so excited about it, mostly because all of my recipes will now be in one place!  Wish me luck!!

Let's see what this next week has in store for us...

Whew! I am tired!!

Boy did I have a busy weekend!  It started w/me thinking that I was going to have a night off, and maybe even a chance to sleep in a little (assuming Jeff would cooperate and not stomp around and slam cabinets!), but that didn't work out like I planned.  I had some customers show up last minute.  We ended up with two rooms.  The guy forgot a book that he borrowed at a campground about 6 miles away, so after breakfast, I drove him there.  We were supposed to have one room on Saturday, but we ended up w/three rooms full. One of the customers had tire trouble on his bike, so I took their son back w/me to fix it.  I also ended up shuttling two ladies that were staying w/us to Hermann, and then back to pick them up.  I still had supper to fix, laundry at home to do, etc., etc.  Sunday, we had all four rooms booked, w/extra people in one of the rooms.  Again, shuttled customers to Hermann to get supper, since Trailside Bar & Grill is closed on Sunday evenings.  These ladies were so funny!  The bought a bunch of wine, and got funnier quick!  After returning from running them around town, I rec'd a call from my other customers, and the heat got to one of them pretty bad, so off to Portland to pick her up.  I returned home to fix supper, and then squeezed in a quick bike ride.  I have been busy all day cleaning up and getting ready for the next bunch tomorrow.  Busy, busy, busy!  Tomorrow, I am returning the lady to her vehicle in Hartsburg, and then off to Columbia to stock up on supplies very quick like so I can return in time to check more customers in.  Like I said, WHEW!!

I did get in a little bit of pool time, but I am so tired, I think I am going to head for bed early!  I made stuffed peppers and fresh snow peas.  It was really good!  A funny thing about the stuffed peppers, I made them many years ago, and Jeff requested that I not make them any more, so I haven't for over 10 years.  He loves them now!  I think that's weird!

I can't believe it's June!

Ok today is June 1, and I just can't believe it!  At least the weather is not so cold.  We are still working on filling up the pool, after a little setback.  The liner fell in and we didn't realize it.  We were filling it up overnight (bad idea!), and it was very windy.  Since we totally drained it to clean it, there was no water in it to hold it in place.  Anyway, we are back on track now!  Jeff isn't so crazy about the pool.  He never really has been, but I guess he will get over it!

We are still very busy at the bed and breakfast, which is very good.  I am working on getting caught up on things at home though!

Wyatt returned from an adventure to Virginia.  I'm glad he made it home safely, even if he did get into some trouble.  He went to visit a good friend that is in the military.  Ashley has been working a lot, but is also managing to find some time for fun.  Megan and Josh are staying busy with work and gardening.

Hmmm....we will see how this works!

Ok, this is the 2nd try.  I don't know if I will figure this out or not, but I will try.  I am hoping this will be a combination blog, and will be a way for family, friends, and customers to keep up w/me, and what's happening in our little world.

Today is a catch up day!  We have been very busy at the bed and breakfast, which is a good thing, but I need to get caught up at home.  Jeff has been working a bunch of overtime, trying to figure out this truck he's been working on for 2 weeks.  He is getting cranky about it.  The day started out w/fixing breakfast for some interesting customers.  They have the same last name as us, and the spelling is the same, which is unusual.  I am wondering if they are related to Jeff's family.  It's a possibility since some of Jeff's family is in St. Charles, and this guy grew up in St. Louis.  There are a lot of similarities, like they both farm, and they also both barter things.  An example of this is that Jeff trades 1/2 a hog for about 30 chickens.  This guy trades things in exchange for homemade bread, as well as other deals!  LOL!  It would be interesting to check into the family histories.  I served them fruit salad, bacon, scrambled eggs w/cheese and strawberry stuffed french toast.  It seemed to to go over well.  Then I mowed grass for almost 3 hours, went shopping and am keeping both washing machines going.  I also have both clotheslines full!  I am making chicken and veggie kabobs for supper.  I might get brave and post some pictures later, but I'm not sure yet.

Anyway, stay tuned if you like.  I'm not sure how often I will keep up w/this, but I will try to update regularly.  :)
